One of the famous disciples of Swami Manavala Mamuni, Erumbiyappa was born in the month of Aippassi in Revathi Nakshatra in the month of Aippasi at a small village Erumbi near Cholasimhapuram (present day Solingar) with the real name Devarajan.

He was one of the group of eight disciples named “Ashtadik Gajas” formed by Manavalamamuni to teach and protect Vaishnava.

Erumbiyappa was mesmerized by listening to the speech of Manavala Mamuni in Sri Rangam. In the end, Erumbiyappa refused the invite of Manavala Mamuni to eat with him and returned home.

The next day he could not open his prayer room. Then Lord Rama appeared in dream and Erumbiyappa came to know that the reason was that he did not listen to the word of Sri Manavala Mamuni.

Later, with the help of Kandadai Anna, Erumbiyappa became Manavala Mamuni’s disciple. And became one of the Ashta Dik Gajas.

Erumbiyappa visited and did Mangalasaasanam at Lakshmi Narasimha Perumal temple at Madhavaram, Pondavakkam Village (on Peria Palayam – Siruvapuri Road). This temple is one of the oldest Narasimha Temple.

The temple is about 600 years old this was completely destroyed due to the lack of awareness by the villagers. By the grace of God, The Moolavar Vigrahas and the Utsava Murtis were found inside the temple intact.

This temple was later found out by the inscriptions and new temple was constructed by the small contribution of devotees.
